Two Million Proofs: The Acceleration of Messaging Apps

Just three months after our last milestone, Jest hits 2M+ apps and games played and 1M+ messages exchanged - fueled by 85%+ RCS coverage in the US.

Back in February, we published One Million Proofs, sharing that the Jest platform had crossed 1 million messaging apps and games played and 300,000 messages exchanged during our first four months in beta. It was our first major signal that the messaging inbox was a viable, largely untapped distribution channel with structurally lower acquisition costs and uniquely high retention.

Today, we have even more proof. And it’s coming in faster than before.

The New Milestones

As of the end of April, Jest has officially surpassed:

  • 2,000,000+ messaging apps and games played
  • 1,000,000+ messages exchanged

What stands out to us isn’t just the sheer volume, but the trajectory. It took us four months to hit our first million. We added our next million in just three months (February through April).

Even more striking is the depth of user engagement. In that same three-month window, our community generated over 700,000 new messages, driving our total message volume past the 1 million mark. Users aren’t just trying these messaging games and apps; they are actively, persistently engaging on Jest via the messaging inbox. Our growth is accelerating, and the stickiness of the texting is proving to be a game-changer.

The Catalyst: RCS Ubiquity

This acceleration isn’t happening in a vacuum. It is being driven in a big way by the rapid standardization of messaging infrastructure - specifically, the ubiquity of RCS, the next generation texting protocol.

As we noted when we emerged from stealth with our $7M seed round, the cross-platform adoption of RCS was the critical threshold this industry needed. Today, RCS has reached 85%+ coverage in the US.

That 85% figure is the engine behind these new milestones. Because RCS enables rich media, dynamic buttons, structured content, and persistent, app-like experiences right inside the native texting app, developers can bypass the friction of the app store entirely. For the vast majority of US smartphone users, the capability to experience messaging apps is now available by default, right where they already spend most of their screen time.

Building the Future

We are no longer just testing a hypothesis; we are scaling a new ecosystem. The velocity we’ve seen from February to April proves that when you pair high-quality digital interactive experiences with the world’s most accessible, friction-free distribution channel, growth compounds quickly.

With the Jest Apps Fund actively deploying capital to help teams pioneer this space, we are more excited than ever to see what our partner developers build next.

Thank you to our users for keeping the conversations going, and to our developers for building at the frontier. The inbox is officially an app platform. Let’s keep building.
